We are excited to announce our latest NCAA sports partnership, and one of the largest ones to date: with the Emerson College Lions. The Lions will be implementing a mix of fixed and portable PlaySight video analysis and streaming solutions to power Basketball, Baseball, Lacrosse, Soccer, Tennis, Volleyball, and Softball, with a total of 12 teams using the technology, which will include LIGR integration for enhanced graphics and scoring capabilities.

The Lions join Springfield College as latest athletic department to add PlaySight in the NEWMAC Conference. To learn more about how PlaySight will be implemented throughout Emerson College’s athletic programs, we talked with the Lions’ Interim Director of Athletic Communications Matt Huran as well as former NBA player, McDonald’s All-American and Men’s Basketball Head Coach, Billy Curley.

Why did Emerson decide to go with PlaySight for streaming and video analysis?

Matt: Emerson decided to make the investment in PlaySight for many different reasons. For one, the streaming capability will allow fans and families of student-athletes who can’t attend games to get a great viewing experience from home. PlaySight also offers a great mobile solution for our teams who host games off campus. This way we are getting coverage of all our competitions whether they are on campus or at a separate location.

Billy: Emerson basketball is very excited to install PlaySight because of the quality of video it will produce. We have a unique gymnasium and the ability to use the PlaySight SmartTracking system to track the action will not only free coaches up to spend more time analyzing the game, but it will provide our viewers with a great broadcasting experience during our games.

Is there any specific PlaySight feature you intend to use the most?

Matt:I am excited for the streaming process provided by PlaySight. Game days can be stressful and having PlaySight’s streaming service will make streaming of all our athletic events much easier. I’m excited to give the fans, parents and fans who can’t attend games a great viewing experience.

Billy: We are most excited to have the ability of a reliable multi-angle camera system that can record our games and practices with the push of a button without needing a coach to operate a camera.

What role does video play for your coaches and program?

Matt: At Emerson, we take pride in the quality of our broadcast. Being an institution with a highly regarded communications department, we hold our game-day productions to a high standard. In the athletic department, we want our alumni and parents to enjoy high quality streams of our games and PlaySight will allow us to do that.

Billy: Video doesn’t lie and the ability to give instant feedback on an iPad with PlaySight’s replay system is priceless.
