Want to learn what it is like to work at PlaySight? We’re going to spend the next few months talking to members of the team about their backgrounds in sport, what they do at PlaySight, and much more!
This week, we hear from Eliza Day, a former UCLA tennis player and currently an Account Manager in our Racquet Sports division.
Tell us a bit more about your background before joining PlaySight.
Eliza: I grew up in Orange Country, playing tennis my whole life. I then moved up the 405 to Los Angeles where I attended the University of California Los Angeles and graduated with a BS in History. My original plan after graduation was to attend Law School but I decided to try out the working world first, and was presented with the amazing opportunity to start my career at PlaySight.
What sports did you play growing up?
Eliza: I tried many different sports: softball, soccer, swim, dance, and obviously tennis. From the age of 10 I knew tennis was my favorite and I began focusing on just that. Tennis really became my life as I continued to play junior tournaments, high school tennis and then ended my career by being on the UCLA team for four years. I really couldn’t be more grateful to the sport as I had the best experience on both my high school and college team!
What attracted you to working at PlaySight?
Eliza: Sports have always been a huge part of my life, especially since my grandfather was in the sports industry. I first heard of PlaySight when I was in college on the UCLA tennis team as when we would travel to other colleges they would have these large blue kiosks on the court. When I found out more about the company and how they combine the two things I am passionate about, tennis and technology, I knew it would be a great fit.
What is your role at PlaySight?
Eliza: I am an Account Manager for US Racquet Sports, which means I get to help people fully utilize their PlaySight technology! I also get to travel and train our clients when SmartCourts are installed all over the country. I love building relationships with our clients as I aid them in different projects and get to talk tennis all day long. We have great partners in the tennis world which makes my job that much more enjoyable.
Favorite athlete of all-time?
Eliza: Tough question, but I totally admire Alex Morgan. I also think that Mike Trout is an amazing athlete and a great human off of the field.
Favorite team and sport?
Eliza: I grew up cheering on the Miami Dolphins and the L.A. Lakers. Tennis must be a given, but I love some good American football!
What is the best part about working at PlaySight?
Eliza: Being able to talk sports all day and to be a part of the integration of sports and technology as it is changing our world. It feels amazing to help grow the visibility of college tennis and change the ways club tennis is taught as well. Plus, my colleagues are highly energetic and passionate about sports and technology, just like me.
What is your favorite experience so far during your time at PlaySight?
Eliza: Hmmm…. I think I have two. One of my favorite experiences so far has had to be being able to spend a week at the NCAA Tennis Championships in Orlando, Florida, where I was able meet and interact with many of my clients and watch some great tennis! Another great experience was being able to interview University of Texas at Austin Men’s Head Coach Bruce Berque after he led his program to the 2019 National Championship.
Finish this sentence – in five years, PlaySight will…
Eliza: On a glamorous level, PlaySight will be at Grand Slams, Major ATP and WTA tournaments and a necessity for every college program and tennis club! I also believe that PlayFair will be used at junior tournaments throughout the world.
