TUCSON, ARIZONA (September 7th, 2017) – Today, PlaySight – the company behind the cutting-edge SmartCourt sports technology – announced a new college tennis installation with the University of Arizona. PlaySight SmartCourts will be installed for the Wildcats tennis coaches and players to train and play on, giving them access to elite level sports video technology and analysis tools. Additionally, PlaySight’s live streaming will enable HD broadcasting of all home matches for Wildcats alumni and fans to tune in and follow along.

We caught up with Clancy Shields and Vicky Maes, the head coaches for the men’s and women’s teams respectively, to get their thoughts on the addition of SmartCourt technology.

What went into the decision to invest in PlaySight technology?

Shields:

There is a high standard of excellence here at Arizona. Adding PlaySight to our tennis programs is a commitment and investment to be one of the elite programs in the country. This cutting edge technology will help raise the bar with our facilities, allow us to take our training to a deeper level, and ultimately give our student-athletes the tools they need to be successful.

Maes:

PlaySight is an excellent tool to help us develop our players. We have always held our student-athletes to the highest standards, development being an important aspect of our package. PlaySight will assist both coaches and players in reaching those goals, adding endless opportunities to improve faster.

How does the team hope to use the technology this season?

Shields:

This technology will play a big part in how we train on a daily basis, and give us an opportunity to break each players’ game down through video analysis. This will definitely add a new dimension in how we help our players develop each day. I also love that our Wildcat family will be connected through the live streaming, with alumni, family, and friends being able to follow all of our home matches.

Maes:

The on-court technology will have an immediate impact in how our students learn. The visual aids will help them analyze what they are currently doing and implement what they need to be doing almost instantaneously. This obviously saves time but, more importantly, also creates more success. Success, in turn, motivates. The possibilities are truly endless. As far as fan interaction goes, PlaySight technology offers an opportunity for all those supporting Arizona athletics to tune in from anywhere in the world and see our team compete, a nice touch for families and tennis fanatics alike.

Shields:

This is an exciting day for our program. We are incredibly grateful for the support of our administration and generous donors for helping us get this project off the ground. It is exciting to have the first tennis SmartCourts in the state of Arizona.

Maes:

Being the first university and the first facility in Arizona to have PlaySight is something very special. We are so grateful to our University and our generous donors to make this a reality. I cannot wait to get on the court and see the new opportunities in play. This is a tremendous tool that will be enjoyed by many.
