Charleston, South Carolina (September 26, 2019) – The Citadel is set to become the latest collegiate athletic program to add PlaySight’s Smart AI and connected camera sports video technology to its facilities. The Bulldogs basketball coaches and student-athletes will soon benefit from PlaySight’s pro-level video and performance tools across its basketball program. The Bulldogs are the first Southern Conference (NCAA Division 1) school to add PlaySight video technology to its athletic program, joining over 80 other programs across all levels of the NCAA, NJCAA and NAIA.

“Before PlaySight, we set up a camcorder on a tripod and relied on a student manager filming practices and games. Now, with PlaySight, we are excited about the artificial intelligence doing the work for us.”

Head Coach Duggar Baucom joined the program in 2015, coming over from the Virginia Military Institute (VMI). He is known for his fast-paced, high-scoring brand of basketball, and is excited about the recent technology investment his program has made. “We decided to make the investment with PlaySight to give our program every opportunity to succeed. We felt that PlaySight offered a functionality and ease that no other video company could match,” said Baucom. “After talking with other programs that currently have PlaySight, we felt very confident that they were the company to partner with.”

As with many collegiate basketball programs, video is an important part of coaching and player development with Baucom and his staff. “We plan on using PlaySight on an everyday basis for all of our film and video needs. We are most excited about how easy clips can be sent to our players, as we want our players and staff to have any piece of film easily accessible whenever they need it. We review film on a daily basis and the advanced custom editing PlaySight offers makes film review easier and quicker for our program.”

Until now, The Citadel captured video the old way – manually. “Before PlaySight, we set up a camcorder on a tripod and relied on a student manager filming practices and games. Now, with PlaySight, we are excited about the artificial intelligence doing the work for us.” “We think that our technology is a great fit for the Southern Conference. Not only is Citadel going to use PlaySight for film review of games and practices, but for the automated production of broadcasting games as well,” said PlaySight’s Matt Gibson. “PlaySight checks off a lot of boxes for athletic departments trying to maximize their resources.”
