Boston, MA — August 24, 2026 — PlaySight, the global leader in connected camera and AI sports video technology, announced today that Dr. Timothy Russell has joined PlaySight as a consultant, with a focus primarily in the tennis space, college tennis in particular.

Dr. Russell has had an extraordinarily diverse and productive career as one of America’s most dynamic arts and sports leaders, creative scholars, and foremost educators.

For nearly a decade, from July 2015 through December 2024, Russell served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), the governing body of college tennis. Previously, he was inducted into the ITA’s Men’s Tennis Hall of Fame, the USTA Southwest Section’s Tennis Hall of Fame, and the USTA Central Arizona Hall of Fame. For 20 years he served as a volunteer for the United States Tennis Association (USTA), including as a Section President and Delegate, the chair of the USTA’s national Junior Competition and College Varsity Committees, and as a member of the USTA’s national Executive Committee as a Presidential Appointee.

“I am excited to work with PlaySight CEO Chen Shachar and the PlaySight team,” said Russell. “Since my early days with the ITA, I have admired PlaySight as an innovative leader in the world of sports technology, PlaySight’s commitment to tennis, and Chen’s focus on the good of the game.”

“PlaySight has worked with the ITA for years to bring technology to college tennis, and Tim was central to that from the start,” said Chen Shachar, Co-Founder and CEO of PlaySight. “Tim understands the college game and higher education — the coaches and players, the programs, and the governance — in very special and insightful ways. Having him with us as we scale across tennis, padel and pickleball is a significant advantage.”

A Danforth Foundation Fellow, Dr. Russell spent over three decades in higher education, teaching as a Professor at Arizona State University at The Ohio State University as well as at the University of Rochester. As a university professor, Dr. Russell taught courses regarding mindfulness and peak performance and became an innovative spokesperson comparing peak performance between the arts and athletics.

Timothy Russell and his wife, Jill, reside in Chandler, Arizona. They have two grown children and seven very active grandchildren.
