Want to learn what it is like to work at PlaySight? In our powering PlaySight series, we sit down and talk with people throughout the organization – what they do, why they chose to work at PlaySight, and where they see the company going in the future.

This week, we heard from one of our young guns in marketing and sales (who moonlights as a professional basketball player) – Geoff Gray. Geoff has been helping our marketing and sales teams for the past year, and is currently playing his first season of pro hoops in Israel.

What sports did you play growing up?

Geoff: Growing up I played a couple of different sports before deciding I wanted to focus strictly on basketball. I started playing basketball at the age of six, baseball for a year and soccer until the end of 8th grade.

What attracted you to working at PlaySight?

Geoff: I wanted to gain some experience in the marketing and sports communication industry at a top company in the space – particularly one with a focus on basketball. Matt Gibson and I had mutual connections through my college and AAU basketball coaches, and when this opening came up, I jumped at the chance. It has been a great relationship ever since – even with my move to Israel and graduation from school.

What is your role at PlaySight?

Geoff: My main roles at PlaySight are to help across the sales and marketing teams. Within sales, I help build databases in order to reach out to potential clients in key markets. For the marketing team, I cut up highlights for our current clients so that we can post them, share them, and continue to spread the word about PlaySight and its pro-level video capabilities.

Favorite athlete of all-time?

Geoff: My favorite athlete of all time has to be Paul Pierce. He made me fall in love with the game at a young age.

Favorite team and sport?

Geoff: Basketball and the Boston Celtics.

What is the best part about working at PlaySight?

Geoff: The best part for me is definitely the convenience, freedom and flexibility. I am able to work remotely from my computer while pursuing my dreams as a professional basketball player. Not having to come into an office saves me a lot of time that I can use for working on my game.

What has been your favorite experience so far during your time at PlaySight?

Geoff: My favorite experience so far while working at PlaySight is probably the NEPSAC showcase that Matt took me to last June at Hamden Hall (a prep school in Connecticut). Although I was mostly filming the games with PlaySight’s portable GO technology, it was still great to evaluate top high school talent, while networking with many high level coaches as well as coaches I competed against during my time at Emerson.

Finish this sentence – in five years, PlaySight will…

Geoff: … Be one of the most popular sports software companies world. In just five years (and less in basketball), it has already made its mark at the high school, collegiate and professional level, and I am excited to help with what is to come.
