Powering over 30 sports in 20 countries, we have had a chance to learn quite a lot about the different types of sports out there. We want to take the opportunity today to talk through some confusion in some different – yet very similar – variations of tennis that our technology powers globally: Padel, Paddle Tennis, and Platform Tennis
A simple google search will prove that these three sports are especially confusing given similar names and the fact sometimes their names are used interchangeably amongst players, depending on where they are located. As we had to develop different technology platforms for each sport, we have had the chance to really learn the main differences, and thought you would enjoy learning a bit about each of them.
Originated in Mexico in the ’50s, but exploding in Argentina and Spain a few decades later, Padel (sometimes spelled “paddle”) is the most popular of them all. It is also one of the fastest-growing sports in the world by participation.
While the 3 games are very similar, there are some key differences which are summarised below:
One of the main reasons that these three sports are so appealing is the fact that the court dimensions are smaller, making them easier and quicker to learn. Also, all of them are mostly played in a doubles format, increasing the social element. Finally, the costs associated with playing them tend to be much lower than tennis.
To learn more, please check out our dedicated web pages for the sports of Padel and Paddle Tennis. We are proud to offer a pro-level video and technology platform to every racquet sport out there, including these three.
Check out the video below – four of the top-ranked Padel players used a PlaySight system and treated us to an amazing array of incredible points (click to watch).
If you want to learn more about Paddle Tennis, check out our partners over at Sleepy Hollow Country Club in New York, which installed PlaySight technology on their courts last year.
We look forward to showing you other sports powered by PlaySight. As a company, we take great pride in bringing our platform and cutting-edge video technology to ALL sports and ALL athletes, all over the world.
